Choose a short Bible passage.

Read the verses before and after it.

Begin with James 1:19–27, or choose a passage you want to understand.

Ask five questions:

1. What is happening, and who is being addressed?

2. What does the passage say? Point to a verse.

3. What does it teach in its setting?

4. What can I apply today?

5. What question should I study further?

Keep the Scripture, your explanation, and your application separate. Let the passage guide your response.
